The goals of the Lincoln Heritage Committee of DeWitt County are to promote the Clinton and DeWitt County area's rich Abraham Lincoln heritage. Lincoln played an important role in Clinton's early development for nearly 20 years. This began with the formation of the 8th Judicial Circuit in 1839, two years after Lincoln began practicing law. His involvement lasted until 1859, the year prior to his election as President.
